Dave Skogen

Dave Skogen has been in the grocery business for 46 years the Grocery business is truly his passion. It is a part of his family and part of himself.


Dave Skogen was born to Paul and Jane Skogen of June 06, 1942. He became consumed with athletics at an early age which led to becoming a 3 sport high school standout. He graduated from Onalaska High School in 1960.

 

Dave began working at the original Onalaska Skogen’s IGA by unloading trucks and stocking shelves. From there, he progressed to the meat department where he honed his skills in preparation for future expansion. From 1974 to 1982 the company grew from one IGA to five stores as Dave emerged as president of the family company.


In 1990, the Skogen Family made another major move as they built their first Festival Foods Store. Currently the Skogens’ operate six Festival Foods and two IGA stores.


Dave Skogen has been recognized by his colleagues as he was named as retailer of the year by IGA International in 1989. In addition, he has been featured in numerous publications identifying his innovative leadership style and employee training techniques.


Community involvement has always been of paramount importance to Dave Skogen. He is Past President of the Onalaska Rotary, an active supporter of the United Way, a backer of several festivals such as Sunfish Days and the Oktoberfest, and a significant figure on the area sports scene. He has been honored as a Hometown Hero by President Clinton in 1998, Oktoberfest Torchlight Parade Marshal in 1981, recipient of the Paul Harris Fellow Award from the Onalaska Rotary, and the Iverson-Freking Award in 1997. He successfully chaired the Onalaska First Lutheran Church Capital Campaign and is currently leading the financial Campaign for the John Shelton Hardwood Floor at Onalaska High School.



Dave and Barb Skogen have 2 children, Mark and Sue.
