Mayor Patrick Zielke

There are very few people that have given more to their community than Mayor Pat Zielke. Much of the credit for the growth of the La Crosse area is attributed to his perseverance, foresight, and leadership skills. This growth included the La Crosse Center, Harborview development, Valley View Mall, the airport terminal, and the First Bank Tower.

Zielke, a graduate of Logan High School, began his public service career serving as Alderman of the 19th Ward from 1966-1975. He was elected Common Council President in 1973 and served in that capacity until his election as Mayor in 1975.

Dozens of area organizations have honored him for his accomplishments since he was elected Mayor, The Chamber of Commerce, the Jaycees, the Convention Bureau, the Boy Scouts, and the VFW have all recognized him for his outstanding efforts. In 1984, Viterbo College presented him with the Pope John XXIII Distinguished Service Award.

Zielke has always had a special fondness for the Boys and Girls Club. He adds special holiday meaning with his appearance at the Annual Club Christmas party attended by hundreds of area youth. Because of this, the Club honored him with the Leadership & Youth Award in 1985.

Pat and his wife, Bea, have been married forty three years and have six children and eleven grandchildren. He enjoys camping, sports, and reading.
