Rollo Taylor

Rollo Taylor was born on December 28th, 1934 in Iola WI., the youngest of six sons.


Rollo graduated from Iola High School in 1952. He continued his education at UW-La Crosse, where he earned a degree in Physical Education in 1956. He attended UW-Madison, earning a M.S. degree in Physical Education in 1961. In 1964, he completed graduate work in Guidance and Counseling from Arizona State University.


He began his teaching career in Horicon, WI. In 1956, where he was head basketball and track coach, assistant football coach, and taught Science, Biology, Physical Education, and during his spare time was the City Recreation Director. From 1959-1965, along with being head basketball coach and teaching physical education, he was the Guidance Counselor at West Bend High School. In 1965, Rollo was given the opportunity to teach and coach at UW-La Crosse, he was the Head Freshman and Assistant Varsity Basketball coach, Assistant track coach, Teacher of Health, Physical Education, and Dance along with placement director for graduates in Health and Physical Education.


Rollo has been actively involved with the Boys and Girls Club for many years. He has served on the Board of Directors for 10 years, serving as president in 1995, and the annual “Night of Hope” Auction chairman in 1992 and 1993 and is still an active board member of the Auction and Fundraising Committees. Rollo has also been involved with the American Heart Association, American Cancer Society, Gundersen Lutheran Foundation, UWL foundation, UWL Lutheran Campus Ministry, Board of Trustees at Suomi College of Michigan since 1993, helped found the Excellence Award in HPER at UWL, Former President of the La Crosse State College Foundation, and Faculty Advisor for the UWL Huddle Group of Fellowship of Christian Athletes. He has been active in international teaching in 1988, 1993, and 1995 where he also served on the faculty and was director of the Wisconsin in Scotland program.



Rollo and his wife, Kay, have been married over 40 years. Along with their three children, Todd, Terrie, and Tracy, they started and ran Pow Wow Campground in Galesville from 1966 to 1978. Seven grandchildren also brighten the lives of Rollo and Kay.
